TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My name is Karen Phillips and I am a Visual Art teacher in an elementary school in Georgia (U.S.A). I have been teaching K-5 students art for the last 22 years. Check out my art videos, lessons from my classroom, and my artwork at https://linktr.ee/masterpiece_momma .

MY TEACHING STYLE

I start off class with a brief introduction to an artist or technique. Each lesson includes one or two new vocabulary words that are from the Georgia Performance Standards for Visual Art. Most of class is spent doing an art-making activity that correlates to our topic for the day. I like each child to add their own spin on the topic, so often the projects do not turn out as carbon copies of my example, which is great! I often incorporate other classroom disciplines into my lessons such as science, math, writing, or geography.
