I love teaching! My lessons are born from those moments in class or as a score when I see a gap or think of something my kids should know or use related to whatever we are studying. They are my Aha moments. After all of these years those moments still occur on a daily basis. The kids in the room are unique individuals and there is no one size fits all... That is half the fun. I hope my moments can support yours. I have taught for 25 years in a number of settings. For 22 of those years I have taught Advanced Placement courses. My AP experience includes every social studies, English, and Seminar. My AP pass rate is over 95% and I teach over 100 students a year in an open enrollment program I helped initiate and design. For the past 10 years I have trained teachers, departments, and administrators in setting up open enrollment and successful Advanced Placement programs.I have worked as a reader and consultant for ETS and the College Board. I have worked with and assisted students from Title I Schools excel in rigorous courses and earn scholarships in excess of 250k.
I think my style can best be described as determined and flexible. I know every student is capable of far more than they realize and that it is my job to tap their potential and prove to them they are capable of academic success. I develop talent, I do not simply identify talent. In my efforts to assist students in their success in high school and their development as self-actualized individuals implementing strategies that meet a variety of individual needs. Recently I started working as a literacy coach increasing the volume of reading for every student (2700) at my high school. Every student has a book in their hand everyday and my student lead READS team works with each student to find "the" book that will set them on a path to becoming a lifelong reader! This is one of my most rewarding endeavors in my teaching career.
