TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a recently retired Japanese language educator with a steadfast commitment to fostering optimal learning outcomes for my students. Throughout my distinguished 40-year career, I actively participated in advancing the field by delivering professional development sessions on multiple occasions through the Japanese Language Teachers Association of Victoria (Australia). Furthermore, I was honored to receive invitations to present at conferences held in various Australian states and territories, where I eagerly shared insights gained from my extensive experience. My passion for education and dedication to continuous improvement have been pivotal aspects of my professional journey.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My instructional approach was centered on cultivating an enjoyable and engaging learning experience in the study of Japanese, incorporating a judicious balance of challenges. To achieve this, I integrated a variety of elements, including songs, games, and activities, to foster a dynamic and enriching educational environment. My commitment to staying abreast of the latest advancements in education was evidenced by my keen interest in Brain Research and its applications to language learning. To enhance the interactive nature of my teaching, I actively leveraged technology tools such as Interactive Whiteboards (IWB) and iPads. These instruments not only served to captivate students' interest but also provided valuable feedback on their learning progress. The insights gleaned from this feedback informed my instructional planning, enabling me to tailor and differentiate future lessons to meet the diverse needs of my students.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Life Member of the Japanese Association of Victoria, Australia. Australian College of Educator's Award for contribution to the teaching of Languages Other Than English.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

My love for Japan and the Japanese people began when I was selected to be a Rotary Exchange Student at the age of 16. It was a life-changing experience and one for which I am most grateful!

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I retired at the end of 2023. I am available to conduct PD sessions for teachers of Japanese!
