Learning time begins with an adventure story/poem read together with the substitute stopping every now and then to ask a question or offer additional information included in the teacher copy. The students' purpose in reading is to decide how they want to expand on the story/poem. After reading the story the students fill out a quick survey form and then complete the comprehension questions while the substitute displays the survey results. Students then divide themselves into groups of 3 or 4
