Do yours students have trouble identifying parts of speech? Students use these cards and sort them according to their part of speech. Students then record their answers on the recording sheet, and check their answer with the answer key included. If students have trouble, I allowed my students to look up the words in a thesaurus so they could find synonyms if they were unsure of what the word on a card meant. I couldn't find one I liked, a 7th (middle grade) research project I wanted, so I created my own! This project allows students to have an introduction to research with things that they enjoy in their lives. I hope this project works well for you, and happy writing!

My kids love using these calendars during Work on Writing! They're especially helpful for those students who struggle to generate an idea for writing, or who need inspiration from day to day. Great to have if you're in between lessons within a specific unit (i.e. between narrative and expository) or to send home as weekly homework. Use daily, or have kids close their eyes and point to choose what they'll be writing about. A good mix of expository and narrative, some lists included as well.
