We baked Black Forest cakes in class after learning about the Black Forest region. I decided to make it a competition and a summative grade. Included are a brief outline of the project, a rubric to grade the project, an outline of the slides required, certificates to give to the winners, and a sheet for the judges.

This scoring rubric can easily be applied to any writing assignment for a World Language classroom. It adapts grading criteria used in Language Arts Common Core scoring rubrics to the skills generally assessed in second language learning writing assignments, including comprehension skills, grammar/vocabulary accuracy, quantity of information and ideas expressed and elaboration, details, etc.
