Tired of assigning "lonely lunch", detention, and having students sit out at recess, only to have the same behavior day after day? Traditional behavior management not changing student behavior? Having students think about their choices and behavior is very useful in modifying behavior. This form asks students to think describe their behavior, think about what triggered it, and the consequences of that behavior, (natural and imposed). This form asks students to think of how their choices affe

This form can be effectively used for students to reflect on their behavior when acting inappropriately in class. This strategy can be easily implemented by teachers or CST for review after a student's completion. It helps students with accountability and problem solving for future behavior. Additionally, this form can be used to track students behavior in a school in terms of collecting data over time.

It's hard for a kid to learn when s/he can't see past frustrations with "the rules". This activity asks students to think reflectively on WHY rules exist and gives him/her a chance to put him/herself in the shoes of the one who makes the rules. It's a rare opportunity for students to experience taking the perspective of someone else. Many of my products are interactive, and you'll find numerous other useful teaching tools from Patrick Johnson. Feel free to check out my other products.

Monthly Journal

For years I asked my students to write a journal entry to me at the end of the month. Try as I might, what I usually ended up with was a laundry list of "I did this and then this and then this and then this." This fall, I read "Daring Greatly" by Brene Brown and decided to connect some of the concepts from her book into what i ask of my students each month. For example: What experience helped to bring purpose and meaning to your life? At what point were you somewhere where you feel you truly b

This is a sheet of paper where you can record common, but disruptive, behavior issues per student. There are places to date and record information of the students actions, as well as your own. There is also room for comments to keep an accurate record of your own. It is great for meetings with administration, teams, and/or parents.

Writing prompts are set up so fun prompts are intermittent with big topic prompts such as self-awareness, self-control, and social awareness.  The word bank includes words from the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh-grade word lists that are also intermittent with easier words.I tell my students that these are suggestions only.  They can use these words or use their own words. You can also decide if they are allowed to finish the sentence starter or if they should do their own first sentence. You

To help our students stay on top of their learning, our team has created a weekly grade tracker. Students create a line graph to show how their grades are changing each week. This helps them stay on top of missing assignments, retakes, etc. We have also included a section where they can set a goal for the quarter. This grade tracker is very helpful during parent-teacher conferencing. Students also reflect on their learning over the course of the quarter. Enjoy!

Use this question guide to facilitate meaningful student-teacher conferences! I print 1/student and use it to take notes during our discussion. These can be done all throughout the year. I particularly like to talk to a few students/day while they have independent work time during the week(s) before parent-teacher conferences to gain insight on what the students think about their academic performance, behavior in and out of the classroom, etc. before meeting with their families. These conference
