Elementary Musical Scope and Sequence

This is a K - 6 musical scope and sequence for the general music education classroom. It is one we worked on for over a year for our school district. (Updated 10-8-18) I am the only elementary music teacher in my district. This is a good starting point for any teacher who does not have a scope and sequence to follow. Please feel free to customize it to your school and your needs. This document is in Word format. It is customizable for anyone who downloads it!

This project allows students to have a snapshot of each musical time period. This can be an individual project or group project. Students research and fill out each time period's box. I have posters in my room with all the information on them, but students can go online and research as well. I also like to have students cut out each box after they have filled them in and create a visual timeline on posters/paper. This can be as extensive or simple of a project as you'd like!

Peter and the Wolf Story Sequence Individual or Small Group Activity

Created by
Whimsy Music
When I teach Peter and the Wolf to my 1st graders, I want them to really know the story. They need to have a solid grasp on the story before we can act it out, and by the end of the unit, I try to help them picture the story in their heads while we listen to the recording. This resource is a visual and tactile way to help students process the story event order. The story is broken into Part 1 and Part 2 on the sheets, so students are putting 9 events in order for Part 1, then 9 events for Part 2
