Ibn Battuta: Journal Entries & Travels: Reading Passages, Geography
In this lesson students will be able to identify who Ibn Battuta was, and what some of his journal entries reveal about him as a person and explorer. Students will examine 4 different entries of Ibn's (who he is; traveling on the seas; travels to Mecca; return home to Morocco). After each there is an opportunity for students to analyze these entires, as well as creating a final writing piece in which they imagine themselves as Ibn's traveling companion for 29 years and write from that perspectiv

In this lesson, students will use the "close-reading" proces to analyze "The Epic of Sundiata" This is a creation story about the beginnings of the Mali Empire. It is also the basis for Disney movies "The Lion King". It can also be use to compare the movie to the primary source document.
