Balto, the Real Story
The heroic mission, in 1925 to deliver medicine to a town in northern Alaska, became the basis for a children's movie named Balto. The lead character is the sled dog who helps save the day. Cheryl Gourley has created a nonfiction reading selection on the real dog and the mission that is at the core of today's Iditarod Race.
A comprehension sheet with over 20 questions accompanies the selection. May be used as a SMART board lesson or an activity on fact & fiction.
