社會科所使用的文字與用語在孩子的生活中很難能夠遇到,他們的生活用語很少使用社會科的語言,因此,在閱讀社會科的時候,除了課文所傳達的知識必須要理解,對於社會科所使用的語法與文字更有理解的困難。本教材將五年級的社會科列舉一些題目,讓孩子畫出段落文章想要傳達的意思,傳達給孩子有些社會科的文字是在描述一個地理的位置或一個樣貌,讓孩子未來看文字知道可以輔佐圖形理解,或者在看文字的時候腦中有地圖,而不是死背文章。有些社會科的文章會將可以條列式的條件,寫成一整個段落,孩子其實很難理解一整串的段落可以變成條列式來理解,因此本教材還將一些可以條列式的段落列出,希望由孩子改寫或者是剪貼成條列式的問答題,未來在劃重點的時候就能自己劃出條列式文意。

有些文章都會問孩子『這段文章的主旨』是讓孩子練習抓一篇文章的主旨與重點,而不是全文背誦。字型與字的大小會不規則的使用,是有鑒於有些孩子認字是當圖片記憶,換一種字型或大小就會無法理解,因此變化字型與字體讓孩子習慣文字呈現的樣子不同也是在表達同一個字,編輯編排也不會有規則,甚至會有些小錯誤讓孩子自己去發現,而不是完全相信教材就該全對。
