After reading through the posters in this lesson, the students read and look for those text features in non-fiction picture books. They will compare books on the same subject fro reading levels as well. Then using the note taking sheet and rubric/grading sheet, they create their own non-fiction picture book that have the text features. This is a checklist for students who are beginning to use technology. We use it for 3rd graders in our 1-to-1 environment (they each have a Chromebook). As users move through the checklist, they are working toward mastery. You can reward them with an actual digital driver's license or a badge or sticker.
