My Philosophy:

Read aloud every class to every single grade level. Students NEED to be read aloud to and picture books are the perfect solution. Yes, even big kids in fifth grade need to be read aloud to. Make it part of your class routine, read aloud engaging books, and base your lessons on those read alouds!

How do you know what books are coming out?

I check out bookstores coming soon pages and research publishers. It is time consuming and hard to keep up with!

How do you read so many books?

I spend a lot of time visiting public libraries and using the eBook collection from my public library.

Should I automatically buy everything on this list?

No! You should evaluate each title to make sure it is a good fit for your library. You are the expert of your library. You know your students best. You know your teachers best. You know your collection best. All libraries are different, and that is okay! Buy books that best suit your school community.

Is there one place that will tell me all the new books I need to purchase?

No. That is why I created this list! It was very time consuming but gives you a good place to start when placing your orders for next year.

Does this include all books that came out this year?

No. It contains 101 titles that I read and loved. Am I missing some? I'm sure I am! I will continue to read as many books as I can get my hands on.

I don't have a budget. What should I do?

Utilize your public library for read alouds. Talk to your school administrator and Parent Teacher Organization. Fill out grants. Advocate for your students!
