This is an art project to teach students how to create a radial design / Mandala. This lesson plan includes a picture of a mandala that I created as an example for my class. 1.) Visual practice sheet - equal areas...
Students must realize that these two fractions are the SAME SIZE CIRCLES and GRIDS. That they are equivalent in shaded areas on each fraction.
I recommend to circle back and review every week for a month...quick review...reminder on equal areas...so there is sufficient repetition for students to ingrain a visual understanding of equivalent fractions.

The student should be reminded that they are computing equivalent fractions by mathematically multiplying by 1 Whole in the form of an improper fraction (i.e. 2/2, 3/3, 4/4, etc.)
