Flavors of Pie for Sorting Sounds and Rhythms
I used these manipulatives first when I taught my 3rd graders "Great Big House in New Orleans" and they created rhythms to go with the song (it was a big activity filled with form, eight-sixteenth/sixteenth-eight notes!). I soon found that I could use them for a lot more purposes for different grade levels.
I added the flavors to the pies to help students reinforce their reading strategies and it was also fun to see their amazement that there were banana and lime flavored pies.
