This SMARTnotebook software file has 2 slides. The first shows revising and editing in a t-chart with covered descriptors under each. The teacher can remove them one at a time as they are discussed, or all at once if you prefer. On the second slide, call students up to sort the descriptors into a revolving vortex for either editing or revising. I used this as a 15 minute mini-lesson with my 5th grade GATE students on what they should be doing during each step.

I use this 2-day PowerPoint lesson on the SMARTboard at the beginning of the school year (as well as right before state exams in the spring) to teach planning methods for assigned prompts. This is a Smart Board Lesson that explains Shades of Meaning between similar words and teaches students how to use semantic gradients to organize the words. It will also work well for students who will be taking notes about the standard. There is an activity to have students organize lists of words on semantic gradients and then practice showing shades of meaning by writing their own sentences using context clues to show the slightly different meanings. The activity can be used as a challenge

This powerpoint contains four activities for students to do either independently or with break-out rooms (or small groups) for holiday writing. This can be easily used in a virtual classroom or in a traditional setting with a smart board. I like it because there's no prep work, just post show the slides. This lesson would also work well for literacy centers or as a mini-lesson. My students really enjoyed this. I hope yours do too! I appreciate ratings. Thanks!

Importance of learning English language arts

English language arts (ELA) concepts — reading, writing, listening, and speaking — empower students to become effective communicators, critical thinkers, and lifelong learners. They are the foundation for all other types of learning as students must rely on ELA skills to master content from other subject areas and communicate what they’ve learned.

Strong reading skills can help students make sense of written content, and gather information for further analysis. Writing skills can help students articulate their ideas, construct arguments, and synthesize information. And speaking and listening skills empower students to clearly present their ideas, participate in group discussions, and collaborate with their classmates. This is why teaching English language arts is critically important for student’s success in school and beyond.

Benefits of learning English language arts

Learning English language arts offers many benefits to students both in school and beyond. It helps students:

  • Develop effective communication skills
  • Build critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Nurture their creativity and imagination
