Worry Monsters
Many children have worries. To help children cope, adults can encourage young children to draw or print their worries and in turn externalize these challenging emotions. With the children and families that I work with, we like to draw our worries on "Worry Monsters." The worry monsters can then hold onto the worry so that the child does not have to. This is one aspect of OuTcomes Therapy's Calming Kit. We will be posting more items in the coming weeks to help children calm, regulate and focus.

Parent Paperwork Inside Note (for backpack loop)
I've stapled sticky notes to my student's backpack loops more times than I can remember-then the light bulb went off! I use long strips on colored paper to mark student's bus numbers so I changed the wording and voila.
Print on bright colored paper to alert parents that vital/urgent paperwork has been sent home in their child's backpack today.

Erin's Law Presentation
It is state law in Illinois and at least 19 other states that each year every student in grades K-12 will receive instruction defining sexual abuse and ways to get help. As fantastic as this law is, I have yet to find affordable and effective lesson plans on safe and unsafe touch. I try to provide you an outline here and some activities that you can modify for grades K-9th grade.
