This is a great smart notebook activity for short vowels. The first few weeks of first grade are spent on short vowels. I collected these songs and then made them into fun, interactive smart board activities. Children enjoy the pictures as well as the fun rhythm in the songs. I also print them out so the children can add the songs to their poetry books. When I introduce a vowel we sing the vowel song as part of our morning meeting each day. **to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell** This song helps students to remember the differences between the four types of sentences. We used hand signals to aid in the memorization. The first verse (declarative) involves clapping hands together and pushing them out to form a period with your hands. This move is repeated four times, once per line. Sentence Diagramming & Building

Help students see the relationships between words, phrases, and clauses by having them break down sentences into visual diagrams. Or, help them understand sentence structure by giving them a set of words or phrases and having them construct grammatically correct sentences.

Grammar Word Search

Use word search puzzles to have students locate words that relate to a specific grammar concept (for example, you could have students search for adjectives).

Grammar Bingo
