This activity/printable was developed around the game of Minecraft. Students use geometric vocabulary to describe the coordinate plane then plot and label points in the context of the game. This activity is aligned to 5th grade Common Core Geometry standards (5.G.A.1,2). Students will enjoy making a connection between this math skill and a game that is relevant to so many students in their age range. The real game includes maps that have X, Y and Z coordinates so this is a great real-world a

This is a good project to bring in real life models to review geometry as well as measurement for perimeter and area. I use this closer to the end of the year and give students multiple weeks to finish assignment. You can also modify this by changing some of the requirements for special education students as well as add more challenging skills required for those higher students.

Geometry- Introduction to Proofs - Basic Proof Practice

Introducing students to geometric proofs in a geometry class can be a difficult task for both teachers and students. I created this introductory lesson to help get my students' brains in gear. After teaching the first few introductory chapters the kids should have some understanding of basic definitions, postulates and theorems. This worksheet will help them "squeeze" as much information as possible from "givens" in formal proofs. Since I started using this paper and other similar worksheets

Have students draw the rectangle described in the word problem and calculate the area and perimeter of the rectangle. This requires students to know the difference between length and width, while also increasing their reading comprehension as they must determine the size of the rectangle. This product includes worksheets and exit tickets, allowing you to immediately assess your students.

This assignment provides students with practice on both the distance and midpoint formulas. In the assignment students will use the formulas to determine distances between states using a map converted into a coordinate plane. This assignment is great for middle school and high school geometry lessons.

Classifying Triangles Assessment

Quick 23 question assessment including vocabulary matching and identifying types of triangles based on their angles and sides.I used this assessment with my separate setting special education high school geometry students.

This worksheets meets Common Core Standard 5.MD.5.b (see below). Students are asked to find the volume of various real-life rectangular prisms. Some problems are simple and only require students to plug the dimensions into the formula V = l × w × h. Other problems require students to find the volume of irregularly-shaped items using water displacement. Standards: Geometric measurement: understand concepts of volume and relate volume to multiplication and to addition. 5.MD.5 Relate volume

This Geometry project is a fun and creative way for students to demonstrate their knowledge of SSS, SAS and AA Similarity. Students will construct triangles with a ruler, compass and a detailed set of instructions. This alternative assessment can be done in class as each concept is introduced or entirely at home. It is so much fun to see students creativity when they turn in their final project.

A great project for all kids of any age to learn logic, reasoning, and mathematics! The whimsical Laura Numeroff story of If you Give a Mouse a Cookie gives a logical step by step of actions one after another. Project is best given after the story is read first. For younger ages: Have students write a story using hypothesis and conclusions. For students in Geometry: Have students compare it to geometry. Best given when learning conditional, converse, and bi-conditional. If you give a mouse a

Perimeter, Area, or Volume?

This is a basic worksheet on beginning a unit on perimeter, area, and volume. It asks students to simply read the scenario and then determine if the scenario requires a perimeter measurement, an area measurement, or a volume measurement. VA SOL: 5.8b

Easy Algebra
This editable worksheet gets students familiar with the four different ways to represent a relation: a graph of coordinates, a list of coordinates, a mapping diagram, and a table. Perfect for introducing the Functions Unit. There are four questions and for each question the student must represent what they are given in the other three ways. An example if given. This freebie is a great sub plan! Thanks for downloading! Please leave a review :)

This project was used in my high school Geometry class after direct instruction of transversals, parallel lines, corresponding angles, etc. This was used as an assessment and student were encouraged to use their notes. Student work was displayed around the classroom until the end of the unit. The sticker file I have included can be printed on sticker sheets or on plain paper and then glued to their project sheets. If you do not use sticker paper then edit the instruction accordingly.

Within a real world context (a city manager trying to plan shorter roads) students will produce diagrams of right triangles with rulers and find the relationship between the sides of the triangles. By the end of the lesson, students should see that the sum of the squares of the legs is equal to the square of the hypotenuse. Further, they should be able to produce the Pythagorean Theorem through class discussion. A teacher's guide is included.

3D Shape Mini-Project

This is a mini-project I have used with students from Grade 4 through to Grade 6 (great for those struggling with the concept of 3D shapes!). The kids have to explore the relationship between 2D and 3D shapes, identify the attributes of a given shape and create a presentation sharing their knowledge. A great task for independent work - can be completed in class or as a homework activity. If you're looking for an extension, ask children to find the angles of the shapes they're exploring. Have fu

Surface Area

This activity guides the learner in finding the surface area of a 3-D object (cube). TLW classifies the 3-D object by labeling its edges, faces, and vertices. Then, given dimensions and a visual representation of the net of a cube, TLW calculate the area of each face and sum the total for the cube's surface area. I use this resource as an interactive math journal activity for my alternate middle school math class, but it can be used as differentiated notes, quiz, or for reinforcement or review.
