General Visual Arts Rubric

This is a rubric that can be used for ANY visual arts project! You can edit it in Excel to create a more specific rubric, but it works as-is. I include point values also to create a final score out of 100 points. This makes a more concrete score for a student and puts it in a format that is familiar and accessible. I also include an area for self-assessment as well as an area for some targeted feedback.

I created this file as a resource for an AP Art History field trip to the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, NY. I found that there were no resources to guide me and my students specific to the AP art history course. I wanted to give my students the opportunity to see the images we studied through text and slides in person as a way for them to study for the exam. I wanted to give my students a walking tour through art history. A resource did not exist, so I created it! This resource is i

Excel 2010 Tutorial - Intro to Excel, data entry and formatting

This is definitely a beginner, novice level, newbie assignment! Students learn basic data entry as well as how to use the AutoFormat feature to make tables look nice and colorful! This is literally the first exercise I give my students in an Excel unit. Being a Canadian, I am affirming the stereotype about us loving hockey by making this an NHL (fictional) standings data table :)! Obviously, students could choose NFL, NBA, MLB or other nonsports related information to include in their table.

FINALLY! A rubric that not only works for YOU as the teacher, but also for the student. The format of this works beautifully as a checklist for the art student and a grading rubric for the teacher. Students assess themselves before turning in their work. The focus areas of assessment are fair, identifiable, and encourage the creative process for students. The nicest thing about this rubric is that you can leave it exactly the same. Then, for each project or unit, just list the specifics that yo

Excel 2010 Tutorial - NBA stats Using the AVERAGE math function

In this engaging beginner level activity, we will use the world of sports to illustrate how to use the AVERAGE function in Excel. Formatting skills are reviewed here as the exercise requires the creation of headings, the formatting of shapes, the use of borders, as well as different font sizes and colors. This lesson can be used in other versions of Exce

This is used to map out your K-12 Art Program. There are multiple tabs that you can edit. The main tab is the Map, that when put into Google Docs, art teachers in your district can put in their projects and align them with the standard they meet in real time. This way, as a department, teachers can find the gaps and the standards they over hit. The additional tabs are descriptions of each standard as found of the NCCS website, just easier to access. Additional tabs such as Vocab, Multicultu

Choice-Based Art Studio Tracker

Motivate students to explore all the centers in a choice-based art room with this studio tracker. Students must explore a center for at least 2 class periods, document their work, and then earn a sticker badge. I offer a small reward at the end of the year for students that badge in every center. This is a quick tracking system to complete at the end of each art class, and badging can be earned every so often, when time permits...like on days when clean-up goes amazing and you find yourself with

The projects in my class are consistently worth 50 OR 100 points. This means I can have a "generic" rubric for the students to be graded on. These rubrics allow me to have a grading system in place that the students understand and gives them some regularity in a normally chaotic classroom. I love having my students grade themselves and leave me notes regarding their project as it helps me when I grade their work. This also gives me a chance to communicate to them what they need to work on when w

Excel 2010 Tutorial - Using Sparklines to graph data trends
