Functions Unit Quiz - Domain, Range, Functions, Interpreting Graphs

Instead of having a unit test over the skills in our function unit, I allowed students to show mastery using the Plot me a Picture Project (also found in my TPT store) and this quiz. It is a 16 point quiz that addresses: - interpreting graphs - domain and range - identifying functions - evaluating functions It took my students about 20 minutes to complete from start to finish so I preceded it with about 20 minutes of whiteboard practice and a review Do Now to fill the period.

Halloween Math: Pumpkin Coordinate Plane Plotting Points and Graphing Review

In the spirit of Halloween, I did this review of plotting points with my Algebra 1 students. Because for them the skills of plotting points is review, I called this "The Great Pumpkin Race" and had my students compete to plot the picture. Whether you plot it as a race or use it as more of a teaching tool for younger students, this is a productive way to harness Haloween energy and embrace the festivity! At the bottom of the assignment there are a few questions about domain, range, and functions

Plot Me a Picture - Function, Domain, Range. and Plotting Practice

In order to review the coordinate plane and practice relation, domain, range, and functions, I created this mini-project. After introducing the new terms and modeling a small example problem, I gave each student the assignment sheet and a blank piece of graph paper. Over two class periods, they were responsible for creating a finished plotted picture, have 15 ordered pairs labeled, have written the relation, domain, and range. Students really enjoyed the opportunity to be creative and the voc

Zach's Eraser: Linear Functions and Line of Fit

This is an effective and thought-provoking way to helps students apply functions to real situations. The resulting function shows a negative slope. Though it is a simple linear function, the data is not perfect, so a line of fit must be employed. Because it is based on real data, even students who have only a beginning experience with functions can understand the concepts and mathematics. The lesson can incorporate slope-intercept and point-slope forms as well as independent and dependent variab
