Kids love idioms and it is one of my favorite things to teach! Each year after learning about idioms, I have my class make a humorous book of idioms together. They have a blast creating their page and I always enjoy their "laugh out loud" drawings that go along.

The idea of paragraph writing can be abstract and confusing to young writers; let alone tackling the infamous Five Paragraph Essay format students will need later for high school and college essays! Lucy Calkins Personal Narrative Rough Draft Packet
2nd Grade
This should take about 5 or 6 days to complete.
I use this for my Writer's Workshop based on the Lucy Calkins series. They way she was presenting the lessons did not work for me but I have found great sucess by using these packets.
Assign one page per day. That way the student can focus on one topic at a time. I take the time to conference with each student after they have completed them and make corrections on the paper.

Usually my students focus on a chapter a week, and throughout the week we dissect the chapter. This is one tool to really map out and sequence events that may happen within that chapter.
