Geometry Project - Geometry Town

Created by
Judy and Brett
Students will create a town map made of different geometric figures. They will demonstrate their knowledge of parallel and perpendicular lines, acute and obtuse angles, geometric shapes as well as many other geometric concepts through this creative and fun project. This project can be adapted to higher level geometry courses and high school classes. You can add parameters to the geometric shaped buildings (ex. must label the dimensions of the building given a certain area or perimeter).

Truth Tables Practice

On this worksheet, the students will practice filling in truth tables with negations, and's, and or's. They will discover what happens when you negate the items individually and create compound statements and then when you negate the entire compound statement.

This is a triangle congruence matching activity that I've used in my class as a two person matching activity. I've used this at the end of class to see if students knew how to solve these problems and as a warm up lesson to start off the day. There are 10 matching sets of cards: 2 for SSS, 2 for SAS, 2 for ASA, 2 for AAS, and 2 for Hypotenuse Leg (HL). I hope your students enjoy this. I have a website that has videos to explain all of these triangle congruence statements. Go to www.doucehou

Easy Crumpled Paper Stained Glass Abstract Art

This easy, fun project is great for all ages. This project can also be very addictive and kids LOVE creating them!! You get a simple and easy to follow word document with visual and descriptive steps (5 total) to create these colorful abstract works that look like stained glass. Reprint the handout to give to students to follow or use is as a visual guide for your lesson. This lesson is easily adaptable to any materials. Students can also mix and match materials to create unique abstract works.

Once I've covered basic probability and statistical measures, I like to have students work with conditional probability, which can often go hand-in-hand with tree diagrams. I created this worksheet for my Geometry students, and I find that it is challenging for them, but it can be broken down into "baby steps" and they learn to navigate their way around a tree diagram to calculate conditional probabilities. I use this activity within cooperative groups, and I circulate to make sure they are ge

Once the mini-lesson is over, I have them get to work within their groups on this worksheet. I use this activity within cooperative groups, and I circulate to make sure they are getting the purpose of the questions. The file includes spiral review problems. This worksheet is intend

Triangle Sum & Exterior Angle Theorem - Poster Project

Students work in pairs or groups of three to determine the missing angle measures in two figures that are composed of interlocking triangles. Students must be able to apply the Linear Pair Postulate, Vertical Angle Theorem, Triangle Sum Theorem, and Exterior Angle Theorem in order to determine the measures of the missing angles. Students create posters to display their results, including explanation of the process used to determine the measures of two specific angles. This is intended to be

A fun way for students to discuss triangle congruency! Students are tasked with folding an origami ornament to hang on our "Geometree". When presenting this mini project, you can discuss how precision and congruence are a huge part of origami and that students should be on the look out for the content discussed with regard to congruence in the course such as SAS, SSS, etc, reflexive property, angle and segment bisectors and more. After folding, students will present their ornament and discus

I like to call this activity Putt-Putt-Geometry. It is 9 glorious holes of trigonometry application! This works great as a Trig unit project, end of year project, or test review (maybe 1 or 2 holes for review). The students can work in groups, pairs, or individuals. If your students are not proficient with Trig, or you have not covered it yet, each hole can be done using the Pythagorean Theorem instead - simply tweak the directions a bit. I hope your students enjoy this as much as mine do!

Geometry students often like to "play" with their compass and straightedge when they first use them: this activity is exactly what I use to get some mileage out of this urge to play: by just repeatedly drawing full circles (as opposed to arcs), students can generate midpoints, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, regular triangles, regular hexagons, and sixty and thirty degree angles. The product preview is a PDF, but the product file is a word file, which you may edit for your students. Immed
