Vector Treasure Hunt! Drawing Vectors Activity for Physics or Precalculus!

Ahoy, matey! Your students will have a blast practicing drawing vectors on this Vector Treasure Hunt! Students must follow written directions to draw vectors onto a treasure map. If they draw their vectors correctly, the students will find the buried treasure! Students will need to use a protractor and a ruler to draw their vectors. When they are finished, they will draw a "shortcut" on the map. This will be the resultant vector and show the displacement of the ship. Students will also ge

Vector Addition "Road Trip" Lab Activity

Overview:In this activity, students will use both the tip-to-tail graphing method and the analytical components method of vector addition in order to determine the resultant displacement of two, cross-country, trips which each have three individual "legs."Materials:Ruler, Protractor, Pencil, Calculator, Handout

In this inquiry-based project, students will learn how to use basic trigonometric functions such as cosine, tangent and sine to find the missing side distances and angles of a right-angle triangle.Students will explore how fireworks of varying heights will affect the viewing angle and line of sight for the viewing audience.Students will design their own fireworks show that will include 4 different colours of fireworks. Each firework choice has a differing explosion height, which will slightly ch

This changes everything! Student work becomes more consistent. Your grading will be so much easier! Using the four aligned graphs makes translations of trig functions crystal clear. This file has 2 pages of coordinate planes for graphing trig functions. The first page contains four blank graphs per page. The axes are unlabeled so that students may select their own scale. The second page has five blank graphs per page and is set up for conducting transformations on the coordinate plane. Please see

Students use a picture of themselves and create a trigonometry story, i.e. a word problem that pertains to their particular picture. This is a great application of SOH CAH TOA! I have included a sample of what the project could look like. The sample one isn't typed but it gives the overall objective of the project. Students can really let their creativity shine!

Common Core Geometry Project (G.SRT.6 & G.SRT.8 Trigonometry in the Real World)

The problems and activities within this document are designed to assist students in achieving the following standards: G.SRT.6 & G.SRT.8 as well as the standards for mathematics practice and the literacy standards. They are also designed to help the teacher assess the students’ abilities when it comes to working with the ideas within the standards. This document contains the following: - project directions - scoring rubric - C.S.I. Application - "Help the Crime Scene Investigators" section

I like to call this activity Putt-Putt-Geometry. It is 9 glorious holes of trigonometry application! This works great as a Trig unit project, end of year project, or test review (maybe 1 or 2 holes for review). The students can work in groups, pairs, or individuals. If your students are not proficient with Trig, or you have not covered it yet, each hole can be done using the Pythagorean Theorem instead - simply tweak the directions a bit. I hope your students enjoy this as much as mine do!

Priceless Math
The purpose of this project is to give your students a deeper understanding of the use of trigonometry in analyzing the circle. It will also provide your students with a better understanding of the use of special triangles to calculate the coordinates of certain points on the circle. It will also provide them with a fun, interesting and colorful way to display the various circle parameters (degrees, radians and exact coordinates) on a circular-shaped project. The project requires the student

The purpose of this project is to give your students a deeper understanding of the use of trigonometry in analyzing various types of triangles. It will also provide them with an interesting and colorful way to display various triangles and their properties and dimensions in a single area so that they can see the difference in the type and shape of these triangles. The project requires the students to use the 3 basic trig functions (sine, cosine and tangent) and their inverses as well as the La

Sinusoids in Everyday Life - Applications of Sinusoidal Functions (w/Answer Key)

I am currently teaching trigonometry in my IB class, and I find it crucial that students be able to apply their knowledge of how to write equations of sine functions (e.g. y = a*sin(b(x-c))+d) to real-world problems. I created problems based on windmills, AC household voltage, the motion of tides, and then I included a spiral review question requiring them to solve a trigonometric equation over a given domain. Note: the motion of tides is not strictly based on a single sinusoid, but the exerci

This is a game I use over several weeks in my trigonometry classes, to help students better recall the three trigonometric functions of all special angles on a unit circle in both degrees and radians.First, you’ll need to print off one half-sheet per student. Ask the students to stand in a circle (or at least a close enough approximation of a circle so that everybody can see everybody else at any given time). The teacher should also be part of the circle so that you, too, can see all of them a

Many students find it difficult to identify the Hypotenuse, and Adjacent and Opposite sides when learning Right Triangle Trigonometry. This worksheet shows an easy 5 step method to help those students who are struggling with the concept. The worksheet starts with some introductory notes, then there are two worked out examples, two triangles for guided examples, and independent practice.

This is generally aTWO-DAY investigation that the students do in small groups. The students use their knowledge of 30-60-90 triangles to come up with the values for sine and cosine within the context of a Ferris wheel. Extentions include discussion of co-terminal angles, unit circle, amplitude, period, and phase shift. Prerequisite knowledge: Special Right Triangles and Radian measure. I do this BEFORE discussing the unit circle and end up referring to this investigation throughout our discussion

Students apply the Law of Sines and Cosines by finding the distance or angles on the given map. Students draw triangles between 3 given cities. They then fill in given distances and/or angles between the cities and use the Law of Sines or Law of Cosines to solve for the missing angle or distance measure. I do this in groups depending on the level of the students.
