Failure Letter To Parents

Created by
Jaime Watson
As teachers we are responsible for every aspect of our students academics – positive and negative. This letter is an easy way to inform parents of their student’s current stance in your class. I usually send tis letter home, attached with a current progress report, 2 weeks before grades are due. I tell students that I will give them extra credit (2 points) if they bring the letter and progress report back to me, signed, within 2-day of receiving it. Even though they are almost failing, I will g

Pink Slip - for missing homework

This is a strategy I got from Harry Wong (great presenter and author!). It's called a Pink Slip, and students fill it out whenever they do not have their homework. I don't listen to excuses, I just have them fill out the form, and I'll look at it later to see what their excuse is. I keep these on file, and they have come in handy for parent conferences (especially if a student is saying they didn't have time to do their homework due to sports or something or the sort).

Learning Goal Tracker {EDITABLE}

In my classes, I post the learning goal each day. In order for the students to take more ownership for their learning, the first thing they do is they copy the learning goal down onto their tracker pages (along with the date and note name). Throughout the class we refer to the learning goal often and I have them assess their own learning (sometimes at the end of class, at home or at the beginning of the next class). After some formative assessment we are able to determine whether or not they

Student Accountability - Weekly Assignment Checklists

Staying organized week to week can be difficult especially for young minds. If you do not have a plan for each of your days, then it can easily get missed and pushed into the next week! This can start an endless cycle of working on the weekend to catch up, and always feeling behind! This is why I created these editable weekly planning checklists to help my kids stay organized and on top of things! I love how these can keep my kids on track so they can work independently so they don't have to con

Classroom Pet Permission Slip

All of the parts of the form that you need to personalize are in red and it's kept simple by being just a one page document. Some classroom pets are not to be handled (for example, I have a taran

Importance of learning science

Learning science is particularly important for students as it equips them with the essential knowledge and skills to make sense of the world around them. Science education is not just about memorizing facts. It fosters critical thinking, inquiry, and problem-solving abilities. These skills are not only useful in school but also in everyday life beyond the classroom.

Benefits of learning science

Learning science offers many benefits to students both in school and beyond. In fact, it helps students:

  • Question the world around them and seek evidence-based explanations
  • Cultivate their ability to observe, experiment, and analyze data
  • Nurture a sense of curiosity, awe, and wonder about the natural world
  • Understand natural phenomena and the laws that govern the universe

With a solid foundation in science, teachers can help empower students to think critically, solve problems, make informed decisions, and engage with the world around them in meaningful ways.

Teaching with science resources

One of the best parts about science class is all of the possibilities for hands-on, collaborative learning! Think: labs, experiments, inquiry-based activities, and design challenges. These activities encourage students to explore scientific concepts by observing, asking questions, and conducting investigations. Additionally, with small group centers, students can engage in group experiments, discussions, and projects that require them to collaborate, share ideas, and solve problems together.
