Social Story- personal space

"My Space Bubble" is a social story created for young children. Using a hula hoop as a guide, this story helps children build an internal understanding of what personal space should look and feel like. Print and use ready to go! Or, add your own photos to deepen your child's personal connection. We introduced it to a classroom full of 4-5 year olds by reading the story and then practicing being good "space pilots" with hula hoops outside. We did it with 3 to 4 children at a time in small groups.

I had a few students that really needed some more motivation to behave! I also needed to keep documentation for my RTI folder with a few of my little guys. I came up with this plan to document each part of our day. If one of my students got ALL happy faces they would go home with a sticker and a chart that said "Good Day Today!" If they went home with MOSTLY excellent faces-- they would get a trip to my prize box that day. This has worked wonders. Rather than just marking on their calendar wha

Keeping Our Class Family Safe

In September of 2014, a second grader in my town was murdered. This really made me think about my own students. I don't really know what they are going home to. Would they tell me if they felt unsafe? I wanted to talk to them in a way that was easy and lighthearted, but it felt like such a "yucky" talk. I wanted them to know I was there for them, but I didn't want to worry them or make them feel like I was accusing their families of anything. I just really wanted them to know I was there f
