Description

"My Space Bubble" is a social story created for young children. Using a hula hoop as a guide, this story helps children build an internal understanding of what personal space should look and feel like. Print and use ready to go! Or, add your own photos to deepen your child's personal connection. We introduced it to a classroom full of 4-5 year olds by reading the story and then practicing being good "space pilots" with hula hoops outside. We did it with 3 to 4 children at a time in small groups. For children with speech delays, the story can be adapted by: reducing description words, or if they can handle the length and still have some trouble with the vocabulary (like, "invader" or "pilot"), you might have to teach those vocab words first... Or you could replace those words with something more familiar like "popper" for "invader" and "driver" for "pilot." Most importantly, make it fun!
