Water Filter Experiment- packet
This experiment is great for understanding water filtration. We use 2 liter bottles with the bottom cut off. Students preplan in their groups what materials to use and how to place them in the upsidedown 2 liter. Once the prepare their "filtration system", I pour dirty water in and we collect it (glass baby food jars work great because you can see inside) out of the small opening at the bottom. Ever wondered how to teach coding without a computer? It happened to me, so I created my own codes from scratch. You can break your students into teams and give them a set of codes to program the teacher or a group member through a maze. I used masking tape and created a maze throughout the lab. These codes can be printed off using different colored cardstock and laminated for durability. I used this 1 page activity with small groups of two students. The students roll the dice to fill in the mixed number fraction boxes and then they worked through completing the calculations. Student groups can also trade their sheet with another group for calculation completion. Fraction by whole number division activity using dominoes - dice, 5.NF.B.7a
This is a one page activity that uses dominoes to create the fraction and a dice to determine the whole number. I completed this activity with groups of two students. I had the partners fill in the sheet and then trade it with a fellow group who solved the problems. Movie Theme Ordering Numbers
Students will use picture cue cards to order numbers either by greatest to least or least to greatest depending on what the graphic organizer tells them.
Teacher could pass out cards and have students group up based on pictures and then then have them work together to order themselfs based on what you tell them. Then pick up cards pass out different cards to each student. Have them regroup up and than call out how you would like them to organize themselves.

Fraction Multiplication activity using deck of cards, 5.NF.B.4
This is a 1 page activity for fraction by fraction multiplication and fraction by whole number multiplication. that I used with small groups of two students. Students draw cards from a face down deck to fill in the fraction and whole number boxes (they arranged the cards in whatever way they chose to create the fractions).
