Engage students in the practice of meteorology by observing the weather each day. After students come in from recess, they can predict what the temperature is. Simply click on the icon to visit the National Weather Service site. Returning to the flipchart, a student can drag the gray bar to show the temperature for the given day and color code the bar using the paint bucket tool. At the end of the week, print out the page (in color if possible) and display along the ceiling in the classroom.

This activity is one I created for my little guys to introduce the concept of using a ruler. Each page has a ruler and an object already placed on it as well as a line to reference where the child should be looking to find out how long it is. When a student selects the correct number (for its placement on the ruler) it has a reinforcing sound. It ends with a few pages of "which one is the longest/shortest" to help reinforce the topic.
