Elf in the Classroom Arrival Letter - No mention of Christmas or Santa!
I was on the hunt for a letter to have my Elf bring with him when he makes his debut in my classroom next week, but wanted one that didn't specifically mention Santa or Christmas. No luck so I wrote my own poem telling a little about the Elf and reminding the students to be on their best behavior this holiday season.
Attached is the letter in the .doc file so you can replace any of the text that you choose. The elf's name in the letter is Tinsel, but you can edit as you choose.

Thanksgiving Syllable Sort
Kindergarten and first grade students will strengthen their phonemic awareness and syllabication skills as they celebrate Thanksgiving. Students color and cut out pictures of Thanksgiving item (such as a turkey and a pilgrim) and glue them into the correct column on the graph based on how many syllables the word has. This document contains a Reader's Theater Script for the story, "Last One in Is a Rotten Egg!" by Diane deGroat.
The script is set up to have twenty narrators that have three speaking parts each. Plus there are four or five characters from the story that have speaking parts. The script could easily be adapted for larger or smaller class sizes!

The Nutcracker: A Craft-ivity
Students love the story of the Nutcracker. Included in this document is a re-telling of the story and a fun project! Students color and cut out a nutcracker doll, then glue him to an empty paper towel roll for a 3D nutcracker of their very own. This can easily be done in a 20 to 30-minute time period in school, but it is fun to give this as a take-home project so that students can use additional materials (sequins, beads, feathers, etc.) and bring back for a colorful display at school!

Snowman Ornament Gift Tag
This gift tag includes a cute poem! I painted the students' hands with white paint and they put their handprint on an ornament. When the paint dried, they decorated their snowmen (fingers) and the gift tag was attached! The first being a welcome letter, telling a bit about myself and what to expect, the second thanking them for the gifts (could be used for teacher appreciation week or winter break gifts), and the last at the end of the year thanking them and wishing them well in their future.
