I use these stick figures in my Interactive Notebooks as we discuss "round" and "flat" characters. Students use specific details from the text we are reading to "round out" the character. As we read and they learn new details about a main character they add an article of clothing or an accessory to decorate the figures and symbolize who the characters are, why they're important, or how they influence the action of the text.
