I needed a good resource for my students to use while writing, so I made this to keep in their folders for listening activities. Print out 2 and cut in half, taping two on each page, print back-to-back and you'll have half sheets to give students. They can add words as the year goes on, even in other subject areas! (My district uses Reading Street for their reading program, so I tried to collaborate with that, we use Spotlight on Music for our music text.) PS- the uploaded image is awful!

Students listen to random pieces of music, to be chosen by teacher. They then, with a group or alone, choose words that best represent what they hear. There are 175 different words and phrases for them to choose from, ranging from actual musical terms to terms like "Summer" or "New York". It's a good activity for getting kids to really think about what they are hearing and using words to describe it. Words must be cut up and laid out for students to see prior to listening activity.
