After printing, glue or tape the papers together to whatever size you like, and laminate it to keep it all year round.

Three Activities Based on "Harrison Bergeron"

I first used this project with gifted eighth graders. They loved it. Not only did they enjoy the discussion but they loved doing art work in English class. Recently I did these activities in my heterogeneous ninth grade classes. They, too, enjoyed it. They loved sharing what talent or skill they have and they loved drawing what handicaps the Handicap General would give them if they lived in Harrison's world. Our pictures are posted around the room and students from other classes who have heard a

During my student teaching experience, the teacher I was interning with had a wonderful strategy to help her 9th grade Pre-AP students remember what went into a well-developed paragraph. She called it the perfect paragraph and used a hamburger as the visual. When I finally had my own classroom, even though I was teaching 6th grade, I knew I wanted to implement this strategy. It is powered by a large list of word groups - 2 or more words per group - that rhyme in special ways. Some are what I call "double rhymes". These words rhyme phonetically (they end in similar sounds), but they also rhyme thematically (they relate as concepts). For example, "nameless" and "shameless" comes to mind. "Ruthless", "couthless", and "t
