Valentine Boxes Volume Activity Common Core Alligned

I use this activity to help justify creating Valentine holders with my students. Each student brings in an empty shoe or tissue box. We use this activity to find the area, perimeter, and volume of the box. This sheet is great for introducing the concept of volume, while reviewing area and perimeter formulas. It also provides space for students to show their work. After a student gives me their sheet and I check it they are allowed to go to a bin of supplies and use them to decorate their box.

This is a small group reader's theater. It was written for four students. The idea of this reader's theater is to reinforce the formulas used to find each of the equations as well as to teach and practice the language involved. It is just one more way to tie Language Arts together with Math. Math has a language all its own and it is very important to find ways to practice it and use it.
