This is a PowerPoint presentation I created on a unit we did for the "Fight for Freedom". We studied a range of topics from slavery, middle passage, civil war, lynchings etc... We then discussed how music can be impactful and have deeper meanings in lyrics examinnig metaphors and converying hidden messages. It is really good to in addition have students pick a song of their own to analyze, which I used as an extension activity.
