This literacy with music integrated lesson takes around 45 minutes to complete. This is an extension of previous learning about rhythm, beat, and music tempo. The lesson has students singing to the Aesop’s fable: The Tortoise and the Hare's characters according to how fast or slow they are going. This is a great literacy lesson that can incorporate music into your classroom as well as go over morals and sayings such as slow and steady wins the race. The Pancake's Escape

This is a script for a pre-school or kindergarten drama club play for 16+ children. It is a story of a pancake that runs amok. It is like the story of the gingerbread man in that is has repetition and an easy rhyming meter. The ending is user friendly and no one gets eaten. It could be used with a unit on community helpers as it has some ( postal, police, doctor, nurse, teacher, construction, baker) chasing the pancake. There is a song at the end that sums up the story! Enjoy this original story as

Thank You Song ( AKA Thanksgiving Song)

As a teacher, both in the classrooms and gymnasium, one of my MUST HAVES was students giving respect, appreciation and thanks when it was deserved...deserved being the key word there. Thanks and appreciation were to be given to each other as well as to anyone who entered our class ( or the school for that matter) at any point. I wrote The Thank You Song ( AKA Thanksgiving Song) because my first love is music and song writing. I have written dozens of songs relating to school themes, curriculum

My, My, I Love Apple Pie--a lyrical adaptation

Need a cute song for a Thanksgiving or Grandparent's Day assembly/gathering? This one will need some practice, but after hearing the tune a few times beforehand and holding up signs with the lyrics in front of them, my third graders nailed it! Written by two tired moms very close to the last minute, we were still pretty proud of it. :) It is to the tune of American Pie, by Jon McLean, or The Saga Begins, by Weird Al Yankovic. In the end, it was easier to have them sing it unaccompanied so we

Thanksgiving Finger Play Song

This song was written to be a finger play, but you could also print out the turkeys to use as a prop. I like to incorporate number songs into our morning circle-enjoy. “Five Big Turkeys” by Heather Asselin Five big turkeys too fat to fly, Sat in the barn and started to cry. One plump turkey had an idea, “Gobble! Gobble! Gobble!” He rolled out of there. (Repeat until no turkeys are left) In walked the farmer, “My oh my.” He sat in the barn and started to cry. “All my turkeys have rolled a

Music Filmmakers often use music to enhance a movie’s theme. Suppose you were asked to pick five songs for a film version of “Amigo Brothers.” What would they be? Explain how each song reflects a theme of the selection. You must have a solid reason for choosing the songs that you do- “I don’t know. I just like the song.” is not an acceptable reason. The music that you choose should fit the mood, the event, and the characters. Music is meant to enhance the story. You need to prove that you’

The song "Gracias a la vida" by Violetta Parra sung by Mercedes Sosa is one of my favorites. I used the lyrics to create a CLOZE activity where the students fill in the blanks while listening to the song. I also included a brief biography of Sosa in the PAST TENSE so it is better aimed at advanced 1st years or 2 year students. I used it for Thanksgiving.
