The words are lyrics to accompany the song Jamestown, Virginia by Classroom Classics, but the powerpoint can be used with or without the music.

This Land is Your Land Sing-Along
This was always one of my favorite patriotic songs when I was younger. I think even as a kid I had a preference for upbeat folk music and this song definitely fits the bill
Originally written and recorded by Woody Guthrie in 1940, the story behind this song is that Guthrie was tired of hearing "God Bless America", calling it complacent and unrealistic all the time and wrote his own song based off of "God Bless America", altering the lyrics and using the gospel tune to "Oh My Loving Brother".

This Land is Your Land
In my music classroom, we sing a different Patriotic song each month. I use a slide show so that all the students can see the words. Each day a different child comes up and switches the slide. It's a great way to incorporate technology and designate a "helper" in the music classroom!
For this particular song, I like to pull up pictures of the different places the song talks about. My students are always amazed at the size of the Red Wood trees!

My 3rd graders complete a unit on the American Revolution and some of the songs suggested are sightly too complicated for many of my ELL students in 3rd grade.
