I have heard many different tunes used with this endeavor but I felt Yankee Doodle was the most appropriate since it was our first Patriotic song. I have listed each president with their number, dates of service and their party affiliation. The president's last name is highlighted in red for the ease of identification. There is an MP3 included which I purchased from iTunes in karaoke form. This Power

This was always one of my favorite patriotic songs when I was younger. I think even as a kid I had a preference for upbeat folk music and this song definitely fits the bill Originally written and recorded by Woody Guthrie in 1940, the story behind this song is that Guthrie was tired of hearing "God Bless America", calling it complacent and unrealistic all the time and wrote his own song based off of "God Bless America", altering the lyrics and using the gospel tune to "Oh My Loving Brother".

In my music classroom, we sing a different Patriotic song each month. I use a slide show so that all the students can see the words. Each day a different child comes up and switches the slide. It's a great way to incorporate technology and designate a "helper" in the music classroom! For this particular song, I like to pull up pictures of the different places the song talks about. My students are always amazed at the size of the Red Wood trees! Product contains two song verses.

This is great lesson for both General music classes and choruses. We've all wished our students spoke/sang in a more articulate manner, but maybe we didn't know how to make it as important to them. This lesson defines articulation and includes a couple fun songs to engage your students. Tie it into the 1940s for a lesson on American History. You can make it as involved as you'd like, making it appropriate for all grade levels.

My 3rd graders complete a unit on the American Revolution and some of the songs suggested are sightly too complicated for many of my ELL students in 3rd grade. I also wanted to teach this to students because they also learn "This Land is Your Land" and asked me if they could learn "God Bless America" because they wanted to decide if they liked it (they learned that Wood Guthrie wrote his song because he didn't like "God Bless America"). I shrugged off the stigma of singing a song with mention
