Famous Curves Project
This is a project for the first unit of Calculus - right after the students learn the definition of the derivative and how to find the slope of the tangent line to the graph. Students will first choose a famous curve, make a poster of the equation with graph, take the derivative, find the slope of the tangent line and the equation of the tangent line at two points on the graph, they will also find a few things about the history of the curve. The assignment also comes with a rubric to grade it

In this assignment, students will research the math topic in depth including the mathematician who discovered it, where it is used in real life and how. End Of Year Mathematician Project - Algebra 2/Calculus/PreCalculus
This is a great project for the end of the year! Students are required to research a famous mathematician (they can choose one not listed as well) and create a research paper using the guidelines within the project. There is also an option to have your kids do a presentation (which I love!) with the guidelines provided as well. Rubrics are given for both the paper and presentation! Enjoy!

Are you looking for an interesting and educational project to give to your Calculus students? You found one! So many times my students have asked what this higher level mathematics can do for them and how they can use it in the future. This project gives the kids an opportunity to not only see how math is used in careers but also what kind of schooling is required and what kind of salaries they can make using mathematics for a living! Webquest: Who the Heck is Liebniz? (Calculus)
This webquest is a search for the "Father of Calculus." Students will explore the contributions of Liebniz and Newton and write an editorial supporting their decision as to who is the true father of calculus. Students can work in groups but all submit their own editorial and supporting documentation.

Famous Mathematician Bingo and Research Project
I realized that my students knew very little about the mathematicians behind the math they were learning and I decided to give them an opportunity to gain some background knowledge. I went to Wikipedia to create brief bios for 24 influential mathematicians and then turned that information into a game of bingo. After hearing a little about each mathematician during bingo, students will choose 1 mathematician to research further and create a resume for.Included:-Bingo board for students to fill in
Discovering Derivatives of Sine, Cosine, and Tangent (and practice problems!)
This is a worksheet on derivatives of the trigonometry functions sine, cosine, and tangent. There is minor manipulative requiring students to know the reciprocal identities.

Calculus Differentiation Collaborative Learning Project
Students investigate data on CO2, CH4, and Global temperature, utilize curve fitting techniques to model the data, prepare a written report, and present their findings to the class. Additional information is available for locating recent and historical data if requested.
Writing Project: Build-A-Box (Calculus)
This assignment is an example of writing in calculus. Students work in groups to solve the problem presented by the client and then write a collaborative report explaining the solution.
This assignment can be done individually but, when used in a group setting, students learn not only how to express their ideas but the concept of working in a team. I generally allow the students to divide the work among themselves without input.
