19th & 20th Century Immigration Project
This is a group project for students to create and present. They choose or are assigned one of the major immigrant groups to the United States near the end of the 19th and early 20th century. There is a rubric sheet attached. The top half is for them to peer review their group members and the bottom half is for their actual grade. There is also a notes sheet attached for them to keep hand-written or typed notes throughout the process.

International Studies: Chinese Fans (Powerpoint and Activity)

Unit 5: Civilizations of Asia

Kumihimo Cords from Japan. A Japanese Cultural Unit. Upper Elementary or Middle
This unit is one of my student's favorites! I do it with fifth graders, but would work well for 4th-8th grade. Students will learn a bit about the origin of Kumihimo cords from Japan. They were originally created to hold together the armor for Samurai solders, so the students find this really interesting. There is a video link that goes step by step on how to create a simple loom from cardboard. I usually use file folders, and that works just fine. You will also need yarn, and you're all set!
