This unit is one of my student's favorites! I do it with fifth graders, but would work well for 4th-8th grade. Students will learn a bit about the origin of Kumihimo cords from Japan. They were originally created to hold together the armor for Samurai solders, so the students find this really interesting. There is a video link that goes step by step on how to create a simple loom from cardboard. I usually use file folders, and that works just fine. You will also need yarn, and you're all set!
