Iroquois Folk Tale
This Iroquois folk tale is the perfect authentic text for guided reading groups at an ideal two pages in length. This is an introduction to Native Americans. My attempt was to make it as politically correct as possible. There are not many opportunities for students to interact with the board for this lesson. It is designed as a teacher-directed introduction.

Medicine wheel - Seasons
This is a medicine wheel that is used to show the cycle of the seasons. The center represents Mother Earth and the connections between each of these elements. I used images that represent each season in North America. The sun represents Summer as this is when we see the sun the most, a totem pole to represent Fall trees and our many uses for them, the moon to represent Winter as we have longer nights, and a raven to represent Spring and the birth of new life.

There are "right there" questions. I do this only to monitor that they are reading and have basic comprehension of the book. I ask higher order questions in my small groups :)
