Parts of a Seed
Use this page to teach students the parts of a seed. Soak fresh seeds (We used lima beans) in water until they absorb water, the seed coat starts to come off, and they start to split open. Should take several hours. Students will each get their own seed and will be able to identify each part on their seed. They will tape each part of their seed to the bottom of their paper.

Seed Journal: Observation chart for students germinating seeds
I made this chart so my ELL students could write what they saw each few days when we germinated seeds. They put a set in a clear plastic cup with damp paper towels, and a different set into a cup with soil. We learned the vocabulary words for various plant parts, and practiced writing a sentence each few days on our observations.
