Milky Way Galaxy Model Lab

Students will make a model of the milky way or spiral galaxy using glue, 8 large cotton balls, and glitter glue. The glitter glue is to show old and new stars (red ad blue) and the cotton balls are to make the spiral arms and the 'bulge' in the middle of the galaxy! There are follow up questions on the back of the lab sheet for students to answer after they have made their model.

Lab Safety Notes on "General Lab Safety" Video by Amoeba Sisters

This is a lab safety notes worksheet to go along with the Amoeba Sisters Video: "General Lab Safety." The notes are written in close (fill in the blank) style. The document has an included word bank that could be used for an accommodation for ESE or ELL students and taken away for students who are higher level. There is a provided answer key on the document. I have made these notes into my lab safety contract for my classroom and have the students sign at the bottom. In addition, you could add a

This involves a series of demonstrations with adapted POGIL models. I show the emission lines of 8 different bulbs ( hydrogen, helium, oxygen, neon, argon, nitrogen, mercury, white light). Students look at the bulbs through diffraction glasses then draw the emission lines that they see. *** note the room will need to be VERY dark. I also show the educational innovation glowing ball demonstration and how light diffracts off of a cd/dvd. Then students work through models showing energy of electron

This is a simple lab using few household materials for a big wow factor. I teach middle school students and they were enthralled with the transition from thick liquid cream, to airy whipped cream, to solid butter and thin liquid buttermilk. I’ve also taught this lab with second and third graders, yielding the same sense of awe. Please enjoy!I’ve included lesson plans for how I would run this lesson in a non-COVID year, in a hybrid situation, and 100% remotely (both teacher-led and asynchronously

Slime Maker Lab- Spanish/English

Slime maker lab. This is a good scientific method/lab safety lab. Ingredients are not very harmful, so it is a good way to teach/remind students of lab safety practices. Students have a lot of fun making their slime and working with their friends. This is a good opportunity to see who works well together for future groupings. This lab also teaches students how to make a pie chart. This will likely need to be reviewed. I chose to do the pie chart as a class. There is a Spanish edition of the hand
