Mexican Sun/Moon Template
When discussing the Mexican sun and moon paintings from the Mayan/Aztecs, I use this template with my younger grade levels and my older grade levels will draw their own. Each section should be filled with different patterns with warm colors being used on the sun side and cool colors on the moon side.

"This Is Me" Suitcase Sculpture
This open-ended art project has students use sculpted objects to represent important parts of themselves after reading the book This Is Me by Jamie Lee Curtis. This product includes a reflection writing page for students after they complete their suitcase sculpture. This project is geared towards elementary students, but can easily be adapted for older students.

Be the First European to Set Foot in North America ~ a Viking Spelling Race
In this lesson they first read a narrative about the Vikings discovery of North America, and they are in the boat with Leif! This puts them in the middle of the action 1,000 years ago!
Next, they make a map of the Icelandic-North American area. This helps increase their knowledge of geography.

Mexican Folk Mirrors
Have the students observe and participate during September for National Hispanic Heritage Month and Mexican Independence Day (September 16) by assembling and designing Mexican folk art mirrors in the colors of red, white and green- the Mexican flag colors.
