I have taught various levels of physics for 30 years (Conceptual Physics, high school Physics, Accelerated Physics, Principles of Engineering and AP Physics 1 and B). I also have taught Biology, Honors Biology, General Science, Algebra I, Algebra 2, Transition to College Math, and Calculus at various times of my 34 year teaching career.
Considered non-traditional and overly energetic by many, learning and fun are synonymous in my classroom. My classes focus on student-centered learning and project based learning. I take an idea or subject area and fully develop it to include class notes, study guide or reading guides for students, practice sheets, pre-assessment sheets, and final assessments. I also create activities to reinforce content for the students as needed. All my materials that have grown over the years are yours for the taking. Why reinvent the wheel when you can just polish it to your needs.
I have been blessed with numerous teaching recognitions in my 34 years of teaching. In March 2003, I was honored to receive the Presidential Award for Teaching in Mathematics and Science. In July 2004, I was honored as one of 39 DisneyHand Teacher Honorees. In October 2006, I was recognized as one of twenty teachers on USA Today's 2006 All-USA Teacher Team. In the fall of 2008, I was selected as one of Walsh University's Outstanding Alumni. In June 2010, I was inducted into the 2010 Class of the National Teachers Hall of Fame in Emporia, Kansas. This past spring, I was honored to be recognized as Stark County's 2017 Teacher of the Year (Stark County, Ohio).
I graduated from Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio with a Bachelor's Degree and from the University of Akron (Ohio) with a Master's of Science Degree. I have majors in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics and hold an Ohio Comprehensive Science and Mathematics Teaching Certificate. In 1998, I earned National Board Certification in Science for Adolescence and Young Adults and earned Certification Renewal in 2008.
