A former classroom teacher, Dr. Kasten has taught for 29 years at the University of South Florida and Kent State University as a Professor of Curriculum and Instruction in Literacy. Kasten has co-authored 8 books and many articles for teachers and/or parents on literacy related topics. She has made many presentations at national and international conferences, and has consulted widely with schools. She was Associate Editor of The Reading and Writing Quarterly for 14 years. She remains active in the International Reading Association and other literacy organizations. Kasten led the IRA's Diversity of Learning Committee from 2011-2014.
