TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught for 14 years in middle school as a Language Arts teacher, 5 of which I have taught Language Arts/Inclusion. I am now a Reading Specialist in my district and have supported K-3rd grade Elementary Basic Skills and 5th grade ELA and SS. I am also a robotics club teacher and have recently completed a supervisor certification. Next, Dyslexia certification starts in the fall of 2022.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Facilitator: Teachers create several activities and provide the classroom with materials and an outline, placing the impetus on students to complete assignments individually or in groups. Teachers may walk around the classroom to help facilitate thoughts about the subject matter, or they may stay at their desk answering questions when necessary. Facilitators trust students to help their peers and derive answers mostly on their own. At the end of each activity, the teacher may gather the classroom for a joint discussion.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I studied and worked in various accounting roles for a combined total of approximately 10 years. After that, I worked as a Human Resource Director and interviewed/trained adults for approximately 6 years. I initially returned to school to become a certified English and K-8 teacher to pursue my true passion. Now I am a Reading Specialist and continuing on to study curriculum.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have 3 adult children, 2 fur babies, and am happily married to my husband of 31 years.
