Teaching Experience
2021-2022 is the start of my 16th year as an elementary teacher. This year I have moved into a new and exciting teaching position: Art and Innovation Lab teacher! This position integrates art, design thinking, Makerspace, technology, engineering, and more into one class. I love that I get to combine my passions for making, graphic design, and technology along with teaching students. I teach all students in my school, TK-5th grade. Prior to this year, I was lucky enough to have spent most of my time with my favorite grade level, 5th, but I've also taught 4th and 3rd. For one year I was a Kindergarten through 4th grade Reading Intervention Teacher. I teach in one of the most diverse districts in the country, and the perspective our kids bring to the classroom is incredible. I work with students who have a wide range of needs, including EL, Gifted and Talented, and IEPs.

Design Experience
After going back to school to pursue a lifelong passion for graphic design, I earned a certification at Otis College of Art and Design. In addition to fine art and design software foundational courses, I studied disciplines such as logo design and branding, motion graphics, package design, typography, and letterpress.

I try to incorporate creativity and design into the classroom whenever I can. It seems that each year my students come in more and more visually savvy. I find that they notice and appreciate when I put in the effort to make a resource visually appealing (in addition to being strong content-wise). I've enjoyed teaching my students layout design when they publish their Informational Writing "Expert Books" using Google Docs.

What's great about Elementary School is teaching every subject and how they interconnect. My favorites would have to be Writing and Astronomy. I am a total space nut.
