TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have had my credential for over 19 years and have had the opportunity to teach in various ways. I have taught Science, summer school, Private School, Public School, Charter School, bilingual, home school, Sunday school, and have also spent a few years running my own website and blog.

MY TEACHING STYLE

In my classroom, students feel safe, they have fun with their learning and they all know that I love and care for them. I take time to get to know each student and their family. I use a conscious discipline approach, I am consistent with what I expect from students and they work hard because they love my classroom and I make learning enjoyable. I make it enjoyable by using PBL (Project Based Learning), games and interactive activities.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have many teaching moments that I love, but one of my favorite is about a little boy that I had in my class. He came into my 1st grade class with a chip on his shoulders. He was rowdy, talkative and always off task. He drove me crazy. I started to talk with him every day. I spent time getting to know him and it helped me to gain insight as to what type of life he woke up to each day. One day he got up in the middle of my teaching and gave me a hug. I hugged him and asked him to sit down. Later he came and hugged me again. The next day I hugged him before the lesson started and you could see his body relax. His behavior in my class started to improve. I hugged this boy about 10 times a day and he went from being a misbehaved little boy to working really hard each day so I could be proud of him. Oh how I had a heart for this kid. At the end of 1st grade his behavior was that of a different child, yet his grades were still really low. I was able to teach him again in 2nd grade. He worked really hard all year, I gave him lots of hugs and attention. By the end of 2nd grade, he was reading just like all the other 2nd graders. This boy needed love, attention, hugs and the gift of time to get him to where he needed to be.
