Math teacher for 30 years. I taught junior high math and advanced courses for 25 years. For 5 years, I have taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade math. For 6 years, I also taught night school high school math classes for struggling students. For 12 years, I also taught college level courses at night. I am National Board Certified in 2003 and 2013 for Early Adolescence Mathematics, Masters in Math Education, Ph.D. in education, and author of 3 books. I am known for my students achieving and growing significantly in math. My students go on and do extremely well in future math courses. My students always stand out!
I believe in high expectations for all students. My teaching style includes a variety of techniques. Different strategies work for different kids. I strongly believe in routine, spiraling the curriculum, and direct instruction. How you spiral the curriculum is key. It is essential to keep doing the same type of review problems daily so the students see the same information and learn those problems. It is important not to jump around to different problems daily.
