TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am in my seventh year teaching elementary visual arts and my tenth year working with elementary school students. I am certified to teach KG-12th grade visual arts in the state of Florida. I truly enjoy everyday I go to work and strive to make my school better in anyway I can contribute. I consider my self a teacher first and then a student. My art is teaching and inspiring my students to be creative. That is how I hope to make my mark as an artist. The resources I create are made for that sole purpose.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I strive to create a unique, organized learning environment for my students. As an art teacher, I have never been handed a curriculum series, which is fortunate but overwhelming at the same time. My teaching style is based upon finding relevant material for my students and adjusting my approach with every grade level (and sometimes every student). Most of my lessons cross the threshold of traditional elementary school visual arts curriculum and I lean more toward arts integration. As the husband of a primary certified teacher, I recognize that our students need every opportunity to enhance their understanding of math, writing and literacy. At our school, I try to collaborate with classroom teachers to meet those needs. I teach art to everyone but seek to open the minds of those students doodling in the back of your class during the math lesson.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

2014 Florida Educational Support Person of the Year 2014 Lee County Educational Support Person of the Year ... the many awards and recognitions my students have received from contests and shows is a true reward, as well. Florida Junior Duck Stamp, Keep Lee County Beautiful and Pride and Patriotism are three of the state and local level contests at which my students continuously excel.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from Flagler College in 2005 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. There I spent my first two years as an art major before deciding to change my major. I have 36 college level arts credits from AP, dual enrollment and Flagler College classes. Continued my education (in education) as a career changer at FSW in Fort Myers, Florida.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My wife and two children are my inspiration to make every day better than the last. My family is the most important part of my life, and I am so fortunate to work with my wife and soon have my children attend school with us as well. The blend I get between my personal and professional life is a big key to any success I have had and will have in the future. Other than that my interests are the arts, fishing, traveling, sports... and basically all things outdoors.
